Firefighter’s (FF) Hood (REV JUN 2018)

NSN 8415-01-462-7670   P/N PBI Gold PAC-IX

(Fireman Hood)

The Firefighter’s (FF) hood provides the fullest coverage available and has a traditional head design with bib apron and shoulder inserts (gusset) for added shoulder protection. It is manufactured from a two-layer knit; the outer layer is 40% polybenzimidazole (PBI) knit / 60% Kevlar® and the inner layer is 20% PBI / 80% Lenzing flame resistant (FR) knit. The FF hood has a premium outer shell/layer that is breathable, rugged and high performing. It is inherently flame resistant, maintains performance values after laundering, light weight, flexible and supple fabric. Finished to minimize shrinkage and the rib knit allows for stretch and shape retention.

The FF hood is required and worn as an element of the Firefighting Ensemble (FFE). It is also a worn by the investigators. It is provided to protect the head, ears, neck and face, except the eyes, from heat and short duration flash. This heat and flash protection is further enhanced by wearing the FF hood beneath the firefighter’s helmet.

The FF hood meets National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 1971 Standard on Protective Ensemble for Structural Fire Fighting and is certified for performance by Underwriter Laboratory.

The firefighters protective hood provides limited protection to the interface area of the FPG/helmet/SCBA face-piece. The components of the FPG and helmet, including but not limited to the FPG collar, collar tabs, and helmet ear/neck protector must be positioned correctly on the user’s head and shoulders. The face opening must fit securely onto the edge of the SCBA face-piece. If a tight seal cannot be maintained, discard the hood. Before each use inspect hood for holes or damage in fabric (discard if such findings occur). This protective FF hood may not provide protection from chemical, radiological, or biological agents. Do not wear a wet or soiled hood.
